Case Study: Transforming a Kaysville Home to Match a Family’s Lifestyle and Location

The Challenge
The owners of a beautiful Kaysville property loved their lot — a lush, sloping site backing to a creek with stunning Wasatch Mountain views — but not their home.
The exterior was plain and uninspiring, the interior felt cramped, and the layout no longer worked for their growing family.
After briefly considering moving or building new, they ultimately decided to stay and completely transform their existing home to:
- Reflect their style and vision
- Provide space for older children, future married children, and grandchildren
- Take full advantage of their incredible property and views
Our Approach
We began by learning about the family’s current and future needs, then explored multiple possibilities: reworking the existing footprint, expanding in strategic areas, and strengthening the home’s connection to its remarkable setting.
Because the lot’s slope was such an asset, we started with a detailed topographic survey. That allowed us to design a multi-level outdoor experience:
- Main-level deck
- Walkout basement with pool access
- Terraced yard stepping down toward the creek
The Design Solutions
1. Complete Exterior Transformation
The homeowners wanted their home to look entirely different — and it does.
We redesigned the roofline, repositioned and replaced windows, updated all exterior materials, and integrated the new additions so the house now presents as a cohesive, timeless design.
2. A Welcoming, Expanded Entry
The original foyer felt cramped and closed-off. We moved the front wall forward to create a tall, open, light-filled entry and expanded the porch into a generous covered space for improved curb appeal.
3. A Larger, Brighter Main Level
We extended the rear of the home to accommodate:
- A spacious kitchen with walk-in pantry
- A large great room with raised ceilings in the new areas
- A generous deck overlooking the pool and mountains
4. A Unique Master Suite Retreat
On the upper level, we redesigned a tight hall bath and created a distinctive new master suite.
Split-level transitions allowed for higher ceilings in the bedroom, a step-down walk-in closet, and a private deck with panoramic views.
5. The Basement was Reimagined as an Entertainment Hub
- Excavating part of the existing basement for increased ceiling height in the new enlarged game room
- Extending the garage at the main level to add more parking and workspace. Space below the extended garage was taken advantage of for a large storage area at the basement level
- Creating a shaded patio beneath the main deck for year-round use and pool access

The redesigned home now:
- Fits the family’s lifestyle for many years to come
- Boasts a completely new, elevated exterior design

- Provides seamless indoor-outdoor living across multiple levels
